Who Needs a Letter of Recommendation?

For the most part, senior students need letters of recommendation if they are applying for: 
  1. Scholarships: most will require a letter of recommendation from one or multiple people.
  2. Private Colleges & Universities: Most will require a letter from a counselor and another from a teacher (11th grade teachers are recommended).
  3. Special College Programs, like EOP: some college programs will ask for 2 people to recommend you. They will not need to write a letter, they will have questions they will need to answer.

How to Request a Letter of Recommendation from Your Counselor?

  1. Complete the following Brag Sheet
  2. Email a copy of your Brag Sheet to your counselor at least 2 weeks prior to the due date. 
  3. Send a copy to teachers if you also need a letter from them.

EOP Recommendation Form

If you're applying to an EOP program at one of the 23 Cal State campuses, you will need 2 people to answer questions recommending you. Please use the attached link to get a form that will help the recommenders answer questions about you.

How to request a Letter of Recommendation from a Teacher?

  1. Email your teacher at least 2 weeks prior to the due date to ask if they can complete a letter of recommendation for you. 
  2. If they say yes, email them a copy of your Brag Sheet.
