Detailed Senior Timeline: Summer, Fall, & Spring
Summer Before Senior Year-
- Attend Summer School- improve grades if needed or take other college prep classes.
- Visit College Campuses- you can schedule tours on school's websites.
- Create a List of 5-10 Colleges You're Interested in- Include safety, reach and dream schools.
- Personal Insight Questions / Personal Statements- take advantage of additional free time to write these carefully.
- Volunteer- Volunteer at a place that relates to what you want to do or study in the future.
- Community College Courses- You will receive college credit and they are free. See your counselor for more info on how to sign up and what courses to take.
- SAT / ACT- Deadline for seniors is DECEMBER, so register early!
- Request Letters of Recommendation- Complete the Letter of recommendation packet and make copies for teachers.
- Attend Local College/Career Fairs- Usually scheduled on a Saturday in Mid September.
- College Applications- The CSU application opens in October, the UC in November and both need to be submitted by Nov. 30th. For community colleges, private and out-of-state schools, deadlines will vary. See College tab for more info.
- Financial Aid- Applications for FAFSA &/or CADAA open October 1. See Financial Aid tab for more info on how to apply and workshops.
- Counselor Meeting- Meet with your counselor to review credits and future plans. We typically start scheduling meetings in September.
- Grades- Make sure your grades senior year do not drop. College still want you to pass your classes with C or better.
- Scholarships- Apply to scholarships throughout the entire semester.
- College Portals- Set-up your college portals. They will offer info on deadlines and forms they need you to submit.
- Financial Aid Awards- By April, you'll see a financial aid award in the student portals for the colleges you applied to. If you have questions, schedule a meeting with your counselor for assistance.
- May 1st- Deadline to accept admissions to a university (this is done in your student portal). Most schools will require you to pay a fee.
- College Orientations- Look on your student portal to register for an orientation which is mandatory for all admitted students. If you don't attend, they will rescind your admissions.
